Saturday, February 25, 2017..The Truman Tigers had 5 wrestlers earn spots in the District I East Championships, which were hosted by Council Rock North. Of those five, four of them qualified for the South East Regional Championships by finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes. Freshman DAnny Baskin (106lbs) opened up with a pin over Pebridge's Stephen Nace, then fell Interboro's Osualdo Carbajal in the chamiponship quarter finals. In the first round of consolations, Baskin beat CB South's Ryan Lewis 4-2, and then earned his Regional birth with a 4-0 decision over Chichester's Mason McLure in the consolation semi-finals. In the consolation final, Danny fell once again to Interboro's Carbajal, to finish with a 4th place medal.
Sophomore Gunnar Fuss (126lbs) entered the tournament as the #2 seed. Fuss opened up with a 12-4 major decision over CR South's Eric Woolshyn, then followed up with an 11-5 decision over Academy Park's Samika Kromah. In the championship final, Fuss beat #1 seed Brandon Bach of Souderton 2-0 to earn his second consecutive District I East title.
Junior Alex Litz (182lbs) earned his Regional birth with an 8-0 major decision over North Penn's Garrett Quallett, followed byu a first period pin over Interboro's Anthony Zizza. In the semi-finals, Litz fell to an undefeated Collin Stevens of CB East. Litz finished with a 12-6 decision over Glenn Mills' Dante Pangowish to finish 3rd.
Senior Isaiah Godbold (220lbs) suffered an early loss to Academy Park's Cyle Martin, but rallied back with a :23 second pin over Pennsbury's Scott Diethorne; followed by another fall over Glen Mills' Jahqueal Williams. Godbold won by forfeit over Pennridge's Stephen Dadio in the consolation finals, after Dadio suffered an injury.
The Tigers finished 6th overall in the District I East Championships, which were represented by 19 schools. The Final Four, will travel to Souderton Area High School this Friday-Saturday, where they will fight for a top five finish in their respective weight classes to earn a trip to the 2017 PIAA AAA State Championships (3/9-3/11) at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA (the SWEETEST place on earth)!
