Fuss Headed to PIAA State Championships for Second Time

(Friday, March 3 - Saturday, March 4, 2017)  Four of the Tiger wrestlers competed in the South East Regional Championships, hosted by Souderton Area High School this weekend.  Freshman Danny Baskin (106lbs), fell in his first two bouts of the tournament, where he ended his Freshman season with a record of 18-17.  Junior Alex Litz (182lbs) suffereed a first round loss, but rallied with an 11-3 major decision over Norristown's Rich Maggio in the first round of consolations.  Litz's season came to an end in the second round of consolations, where he dropped a 19-2 technical fall to Collin Stephens of CB East.  Alex ends the year with a season record of 26-15. Senior Isaiah Godbold (220lbs) also suffered an early loss, but was able to come back with a 7-0 win over Spring Ford's Tyler Loracca; then eventually fell to Unionville's Mike Maguire in the final bout of his HS career.  Godbold ends this season with a record of 25-11.

Sophomore Gunnar Fuss (126lbs) faced a very tough Matt Marino (Garnett Valley) in his first bout of the tournament.  Marino, a 3x State Qualifier, has served Fuss three, of his 11 losses in his high school career so far...all of which have been by pin.  This time, Fuss was the one that walked away with the win after taking Marino down in Sudden Victory to win the bout 3-1.  In the semi-finals, Gunnar faced another returning State Qualifier...Brett Kalliner from West Chester Rustin.  Gunnar earned a 5-3 decision over Kalliner to punch his ticket to Hershey for the second time!!  In the championship final, Fuss faced returning 2x State Placewinner Jakob Campbell, the Senior from Boyertown.  Campbell topped Gunner 6-2 to earn the 126lb SE Regional title.

Great Job, Men!

Next stop....Chocolatetown!!! We will be traveling to Hershey, Pa from Wednesday (3/8) until Saturday (3/11) to compete in the 2017 PIAA AAA State Championships at the Giant Center.  The top 20 wrestlers in the state will compete for a top-eight finish and a spot on the podium in their respective weight classes this week.  As always, thank you for your continued support!!
