Sophomore Gunnar Fuss (126lbs) lead the Tigers with a season record of 32-8, capturing SOL National and District I East Championship titles, as well as a 2nd place finish in the SE Regional Championships to earn a return trip to the PIAA State Championships for the second time. In his first bout at the State Championships, Fuss pinned senior Jake Cherry (Central Dauphin), who entered the tournament with a record of 40-5 and is a 3x state qualifier. In the quarter finals, Gunnar faced the undefeated (142-0), 3x PIAA State Champion, and 2x WORLD Champion, Spencer Lee (Franklin Regional), who earned a technical fall over Fuss for the win. In the ‘blood round’, Gunnar saw senior Jakob Campbell (3x PIAA Sate Place Winner). Campbell bested Gunnar with a 7-4 decision, which cut Fuss short just one win short of earning a top-eight medal. Campbell went on to win a 3rd place medal. Gunnar ends his second season with the Tigers with a career mark of 67-13. Other Tigers with impressive marks this season include:
-Isaiah Godbold 25-11
-Daniel Baskin 18-17
-Alex Litz 26-15
-Frank Regalis 18-11
-Joey Goldey 20-14
Alumni Update: Truman currently has 3 graduates wrestling at the collegiate level: Danny Vossbein (West Chester University), Dylan Nuttall (York College), and Jesse Huber (York College). Vossbein, compiled a record of 20-8, and earned his second trip to the NCWA National Championships at 165lbs for the Rams. Dan made it to the ‘blood round’ at the National Championships, before falling just short of earning All-American status. After a very impressive freshman year at Bridgewater State University (Mass), Nuttall transferred to York College to join former teammate Jesse Huber. In his first year with the Spartans, Nuttall compiled a 22-12 record at 125lbs. Nuttall was projected to earn a spot in the NCAA DIII National Championships, but suffered a rib injury going into the regional qualifying tournament. Jesse Huber competed at 184lbs in his second year with the York College Spartans; he suffered multiple injuries this season, which kept him from quite a bit of competition. Huber finished the season with a record of 8-8.
Congratulations to all current and former HST wrestlers on your successful 2016-2017 seasons..Now, it’s time to start preparing for 2017-2018!!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
