For years, there has been one common theme in the lack of participation among high school wrestlers; that is, the uniform. Many high school athletes have expressed an interest in wrestling, but were driven away because they were not comfortable wearing the traditional one-piece singlet. For Truman, this concern has come primarily from students that would compete at the higher weight classes. Last season, Truman finished 3rd in the SOL National conference, losing only to CR North and CR South. A 42-30 loss to CR North, could have been a completely different result if Truman did not have to forfeit 2 weight classes (12pts.)
**This year, the PIAA has decided to do away with the mandatory one-piece singlet, and allow wrestlers the option of wearing a more loose-fitting two-piece alternative uniform. With the uniform no longer being an area of concern, we are hoping to see an increase in participation this season, especially among the heavier weights. Our season officially begins on Friday, November 17th after school, but we will be running workouts everyday until then. All are welcome...I hope to see plenty of new faces!! Any questions, feel free to stop in the wrestling room after school, ask a returning wrestler, or contact Coach Dunn directly.
