Nuttall wins District Title, Stone Earns First Trip to Regionals

Truman, with its Final Five wrestlers, finished 5th overall at the District I East Championships (21 teams were represented). Among the final five wrestlers who competed in the District I East Championships, two will be moving on to the South East Regional Championships at Oxford next weekend. Dylan Nuttall won the 120lb title as he edged Micah Visuwan of Pennridge in the championship final. Dustin Stone punched his ticket to regionals with a 3-0 win over Thomas Michaels of Souderton in the Consolation Semifinal bout at 145lbs. In the Consolation final, Stone defeated Lucas Martoccio of Council Rock South 8-4 to capture a third-place finish and his first trip to the Regional Tournament. Martoccio beat Stone in last week's SOL National Championship final 6-0. Brandon Wiley (220lbs) and Justin Litz (195lbs) both finished 5th in their respective weight classes. Dennis Burns finished 6th at 113lbs. The South East Regional Championships hosted by Oxford Area High School will begin Friday (2-27-15) and will conclude on Saturday (2-28-15). The top-5 from each weight class will earn a spot to compete in the PIAA AAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA 3/5/15 - 3/7/15. Five wrestlers still fighting for regional births....Nuttall sets new school record with #133

Due to the weather, the District I AAA Championship tournament was forced to be split into a two-day event. The tigers entered the tournament yesterday (2/21/15) with six wrestlers, and now have five remaining. Of those five, Dennis Burns (113), Dustin Stone (145), Justin Litz (195), and Brandon Wiley (220) are all one win away from earning trips to compete in the South East Regional Championship next Friday-Saturday. Dylan Nuttall (120) locked his bid to Regional Championships in yesterday as he won two Major Decisions to earn a spot the the championship final of the District I tournament. Dylan's semifinal win, a 17-5 major decision over Kristian Courtney of William Tennent, marked his 133rd win of his high school career -- the most in Truman Wrestling History! The District I tournament will wrap up on Monday (2/23/15) beginning at 5pm at Interboro High School. Congratulations and Good Luck to the final five! As always, thank you for the continued support!

Nuttall earns SOL National Title, 6 Tigers going to Districts

Six Tigers were able to claim a top-4 spot in the Suburban One National League Championships on Saturday (2-14-15) held at Neshaminy to earn a spot in the District I AAA Championships on Saturday (2-21-15) hosted by Interboro High School. Dylan Nuttall won his first SOL title, going 3-0 on the day, including a 4-0 win over Pennsbury's Connor Joyce in the championship round. Nuttall moves into the District championships as the Number 1 seeded wrestler, and will likely meet with Joyce again in the final at Interboro. Dylan also enters this weekend just 2 wins away from matching the school record of 132, held by Sean Edmonson. Dennis Burns and Dustin Stone both claimed Second place medals and are certainly looking to earn another top-4 spot at the District Championships this weekend. Brandon Wiley (220), Justin Litz (195), and Austin Vossbein (132) all earned third-place medals and will also be contending for a bid the the Regional Championships next weekend.
11 wresters from the 3 League Championship tournaments will meet at Interboro for the District I AAA Championships this Saturday (2-21-15) - The top-4 wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the South East Regional Championships next week (2/27-2/28) at Oxford High School. The top 5 wrestlers in each weight class at the Regional Championships will earn a spot in the PIAA AAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey on March 5-7.

Senior Night vs Bensalem

The Tigers defeated the Bensalem Owls during their Senior night and last dual meet of the regular season by a score of 37-29. Both Seniors (Dylan Nuttall & Brandon Wiley) were victorious in their last bouts of their careers to be wrestled in the HST gymnasium. Austin Vossbein (132) recorded a major decision (16-4) over Bensalem's Mike Rimer; Johnny Joel followed up with another major decision (20-8) over Zac Ficano; then Dustin Stone (145) was forced to default his bout due to an injury. Freshman Alex Litz picked up the momentum again at 152lbs as he won an 11-4 decision over Manoj Kumar; Quentin Mulbah (182) was able to finish a takedown in Sudden Vistory Overtime for the 3-1 win over Ryan Nolan; Justin Litz (195) pinned Jasin Speer; Brandon Wiley followed up with a pin over Sal Rosales at the end of the second period; Dennis Burns ended the night and locked in the tea win with a Technical Fall (23-4) over Jack Mackenzie.
The Truman Tigers finished their regular season with a record of 11-11 (3-4 SOL).
