HERSHEY Bound...Nuttall & Stone Qualify for PIAA State Championships!

The Tigers will be sending TWO wrestlers to the PIAA State Championships in Hershey, PA this week. Both Dylan Nuttall and Dustin Stone qualified for the PIAA Championships by finishing in the top-five in their respective weight classes at the South East Regional Championships that took place on Friday-Saturday at Oxford Area High School. Nuttall (120lbs) fell to Derek Gulotta of Owen J. Roberts by a score of 1-0 in the first round, then rallied with wins over Nik Zimmerman (Downingtown East) 5-0; Noah Hankin (West Chester East) 6-4; then guaranteed himself a top-4 finish with a 4-3 win over Micah Visuwan of Pennridge. Nuttall fell to Matt Marino of Garnet Valley in the Consolation Final.
Dustin Stone (145) opened up the weekend with a pin over Ian Larson of Unioville; then fell to Dominick Petrucelli of Owen J. Roberts by a score of 1-0. Dustin came back strong on Friday, beating Tyler Lacosta (Kennet) 7-0 and Nick Beauchamp (Spring Ford) 1-0. In the Consolation Semi-final, Stone fell to Chase Stephens of Coatesville 11-0. In Stones final match of the evening, he was trailing Hunter Vogels of Bopyertown 4-0 before a late third-period rally where Stone put Vogles to his back and got the pin to earn his ticket to HERSHEY. This is both Dyaln and Dustin's first year qualifying for the State Championship tournament - they are the first two Truman wrestlers to qualify since James Bak in 2009. Nuttall and Stone's performances allowed Truman to finish 19th overall in the South East Region, represented by 60 schools.
Nuttall enters the State tournament with a record of 35-5 (136-22 career); Stone enters with a record of 36-8 (98-24 career).

Wrestling will begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday evening at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA. Medals will be awarded to the top-8 finishers in each weight class.

Nuttall wins District Title, Stone Earns First Trip to Regionals

Truman, with its Final Five wrestlers, finished 5th overall at the District I East Championships (21 teams were represented). Among the final five wrestlers who competed in the District I East Championships, two will be moving on to the South East Regional Championships at Oxford next weekend. Dylan Nuttall won the 120lb title as he edged Micah Visuwan of Pennridge in the championship final. Dustin Stone punched his ticket to regionals with a 3-0 win over Thomas Michaels of Souderton in the Consolation Semifinal bout at 145lbs. In the Consolation final, Stone defeated Lucas Martoccio of Council Rock South 8-4 to capture a third-place finish and his first trip to the Regional Tournament. Martoccio beat Stone in last week's SOL National Championship final 6-0. Brandon Wiley (220lbs) and Justin Litz (195lbs) both finished 5th in their respective weight classes. Dennis Burns finished 6th at 113lbs. The South East Regional Championships hosted by Oxford Area High School will begin Friday (2-27-15) and will conclude on Saturday (2-28-15). The top-5 from each weight class will earn a spot to compete in the PIAA AAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA 3/5/15 - 3/7/15. Due to the weather, the District I AAA Championship tournament was forced to be split into a two-day event. The tigers entered the tournament yesterday (2/21/15) with six wrestlers, and now have five remaining. Of those five, Dennis Burns (113), Dustin Stone (145), Justin Litz (195), and Brandon Wiley (220) are all one win away from earning trips to compete in the South East Regional Championship next Friday-Saturday. Dylan Nuttall (120) locked his bid to Regional Championships in yesterday as he won two Major Decisions to earn a spot the the championship final of the District I tournament. Dylan's semifinal win, a 17-5 major decision over Kristian Courtney of William Tennent, marked his 133rd win of his high school career -- the most in Truman Wrestling History! The District I tournament will wrap up on Monday (2/23/15) beginning at 5pm at Interboro High School. Congratulations and Good Luck to the final five! As always, thank you for the continued support!

Nuttall earns SOL National Title, 6 Tigers going to Districts

Six Tigers were able to claim a top-4 spot in the Suburban One National League Championships on Saturday (2-14-15) held at Neshaminy to earn a spot in the District I AAA Championships on Saturday (2-21-15) hosted by Interboro High School. Dylan Nuttall won his first SOL title, going 3-0 on the day, including a 4-0 win over Pennsbury's Connor Joyce in the championship round. Nuttall moves into the District championships as the Number 1 seeded wrestler, and will likely meet with Joyce again in the final at Interboro. Dylan also enters this weekend just 2 wins away from matching the school record of 132, held by Sean Edmonson. Dennis Burns and Dustin Stone both claimed Second place medals and are certainly looking to earn another top-4 spot at the District Championships this weekend. Brandon Wiley (220), Justin Litz (195), and Austin Vossbein (132) all earned third-place medals and will also be contending for a bid the the Regional Championships next weekend.
11 wresters from the 3 League Championship tournaments will meet at Interboro for the District I AAA Championships this Saturday (2-21-15) - The top-4 wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the South East Regional Championships next week (2/27-2/28) at Oxford High School. The top 5 wrestlers in each weight class at the Regional Championships will earn a spot in the PIAA AAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey on March 5-7.

Senior Night vs Bensalem

The Tigers defeated the Bensalem Owls during their Senior night and last dual meet of the regular season by a score of 37-29. Both Seniors (Dylan Nuttall & Brandon Wiley) were victorious in their last bouts of their careers to be wrestled in the HST gymnasium. Austin Vossbein (132) recorded a major decision (16-4) over Bensalem's Mike Rimer; Johnny Joel followed up with another major decision (20-8) over Zac Ficano; then Dustin Stone (145) was forced to default his bout due to an injury. Freshman Alex Litz picked up the momentum again at 152lbs as he won an 11-4 decision over Manoj Kumar; Quentin Mulbah (182) was able to finish a takedown in Sudden Vistory Overtime for the 3-1 win over Ryan Nolan; Justin Litz (195) pinned Jasin Speer; Brandon Wiley followed up with a pin over Sal Rosales at the end of the second period; Dennis Burns ended the night and locked in the tea win with a Technical Fall (23-4) over Jack Mackenzie.
The Truman Tigers finished their regular season with a record of 11-11 (3-4 SOL).

Council Rock South; Bensalem/Senior Night

Last night, the Truman Tigers fell to The Council Rock South Golden Hawks 60-3. The Tigers' only win came from Dylan Nuttall (126lbs) with a 6-2 decision over Troy Nation. Nuttall improved to 25-3 this season and 126-20 in his career as an HST wrestler.
Join us tonight as we conclude our regular season against the Bensalem Owls. This will be our last Suburban One National League dual meet of the season before we head into the SOL National Championships this Saturday (2-14-15). In addition, tonight is our Senior Night, in which Dylan Nuttall (120lbs) and Brandon Wiley (220lbs) will be recognized as they compete for their last time in the Harry S. Truman gymnasium. Junior Varsity begins around 6pm, followed by the recognition of our two Seniors (Dylan and Brandon), and Varsity will begin at 7pm. New Oxford Tournament

Wrestlers competed in the 32 team individual wrestling Tournament this weekend at New Oxford High School. Truman finished 12th overall. Four tigers earned hardware for a top eight finish in their respective weight classes. Dennis Burns went 4-1 on the weekend, taking second place in the 113lb weight class. He dropped a 6-2 decision in the finals to state qualifier Zurich Storm from New Oxford. Dylan Nuttall finished 4th in the 120lb weight class. Dustin Stone fell in the semi finals to state runner up Kent Lane from Southern Columbia by score of 8-0; but won his next two bouts to earn a third place finish. Brandon Wiley made it to the semifinal in the 220lb weight class, but was forced to default out of the tournament due to an injury. Since Brandon made it to the semifinal, he was locked in to walk away with an 8th place medal. Congrats to everyone who competed over the weekend, both JV and V. We will be back in action at Neshaminy this Wednesday at 7pm (1/28/15). As always, thank you for your continued support!

Haverford - Buckley Duals

The Tigers went 2-3 on the day at the Buckley Duals hosted by the Haverford School. In our first dual meet of the competition, we fell to the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs 43-19, but we were able to respond with a 36-31 victory over West Chester East. The Haverford School edged us 51-24 in the third round before we captured our second victory of the day over Harrisburg 59-24. At the completion of the last round of competition, we had a tied score of 37-37 with Coatesville -- Coatesville was determined the winner by means of Tiebreaker Criteria 'H' (Who scored the most points first). Highlights included Dustin Stone (145) going unbeaten in all five of his bouts; Ernie Registre, Dennis Burns, Dylan Nuttall, Johnny Joel, and Brandon Wiley all went 4-1. Chris Lininger and Quentin Mulbah each won a pair of matches, while Estephen Salguero and Mike Vazquez each picked up a win.
We were expected to host Bensalem last night (1/21/15) for our last Home meet of the season as well as our Senior Night to honor Dylan Nuttall and Brandon Wiley, but we were forced to reschedule due to the weather. We will hit the road tomorrow afternoon (1/23/15) to compete in the New Oxford Individual Wrestling Tournament at New Oxford High School. Wrestling will take place both Friday (1/23) and Saturday (1/24).

The Tigers ended 2014 with a second place finish at the Harry S. Truman Penn/Jersey Holiday Duals on 12/30/14, going 4-1 on the day. Truman topped New Hope Solebury 58-1; Archbishop Ryan 51-19; Ewing 44-30 and Bristol 54-15, before falling to Hillsboro in the Championship round by a score of 40-28. Junior Dustin Stone (145lbs) won all five of his bouts (four by FALL) and was named Outstanding Wrestler. Senior Dylan Nuttall (126lbs) went 2-0; Ernie Registre (106lbs) went 4-1; Austin Vossbein (132lbs) went 4-1; Johnny Joel (138lbs) went 4-1; Corey Lettieri (152lbs) went 3-2; Quentin Mulbah (170lbs) went 4-1; Brandon Wiley (285lbs) was also 5-0; Yasir Talley (160lbs) went 2-3; Justin Litz (220lbs) went 2-3.
1/7/14 Council Rock North
The Tigers took on Council Rock North Wednesday night at CRN in their third SOL National Dual Meet. Unfortunately, Truman came up short against the Indians -- falling to CRN by a score of 47-19. The Tigers' only wins came from Senior Dylan Nuttall (120) with a Major Decision (15-7) over Tom Matarazzo; Junior JohnnyJoel (138) with a 9-3 decision over Nick Nucero and Junior Dustin Stone (145) with a FALL over Taylor Thorpe.

Truman Takes 2nd at Colley Classic, Nuttall wins OW again

The Truman Wrestlers finished Second overall at the Colley Classic hosted by West Chester East High School on Saturday (12/13/14). Four HST wrestlers captured individual titles, while three more finished in the top 4 in their respective weight classes. Dylan Nuttall went 5-0, winning his third consecutive Colley Classic title; he was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament for the second week in a row. Included in his 5 victories, Nuttall recorded four pins and one major decision. Other individual champions included Dustin Stone, who recorded three pins en route of his 5-0 day; Dennis Burns' 5-0 day included one pin and one technical fall; Brandon Wiley captured the 285lb title, pinning all five of his opponents! Both Johnny Joel and Isaih Godbold finished 3rd, while Austin Vossbein finished 4th to help the Tigers finish 2nd in the team race. Full results can be found by clicking the link below. The Tigers will step back on the mat this Wednesday (12/17/14) against William Tennent High School for their second Suburban One National League match of the season. The Truman Tigers captured a 40-32 victory in their first Suburban One League (National Conference) victory over Abington on Wednesday night (12/10/14). The tigers came on strong with three key pins from Ernie Registre (1-0), Dennis Burns (3-3), and Dylan Nuttall (6-0). Junior Dustin Stone earned a major decision to improve to 5-1; junior Justin Litz also improved to 5-1. Other wins came from Quentin Mulbah (4-2), Jorden Freeman (2-4), and Brandon Wiley (3-1). The Tigers will be back in the mat this Saturday (12/13) as they compete in the Colley Classic at West Chester East High School.

Nuttall named Outstanding Wrestler at Boyertown Duals

The tigers opened up this weekend at the Brian Bealer Memorial Duals hosted by Boyertown High School. We finished 7th, going 2-3 overall. Highlights included Senior Dylan Nuttall (120lbs) was named Outstanding Wrestler, going 5-0 on the day. Nuttall's five wins included 2 falls, one technical fall, one major decision, and an impressive 8-4 win over Derek Gullotta (3x state place winner; currently ranked #1 in the SE Region at 120lbs). Junior Dustin Stone won 4 of his 5 matches, falling to Jordan Allien from Governor Mifflin in an Ultimate Tiebreaker. Junior Quentin Mulbah recorded a 3-2 record for the day, including two falls. Junior Justin Litz was also 4-1 on the day, with three falls. Congratulations to Dylan and the rest of the HST wrestling team. The Tigers will be back on the mat this Wednesday @ 7pm as we host Abington in our first Suburan One League dual meet of the season. Please come out and support the Tiger wrestlers.

Win Over Tennent

Truman visited William Tennent on 12/17/14 for their second Suburban One National League match of the season. The tigers were able to come away with a 65-4 victory over the Panthers. The tigers improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the SOL National. We have a short break from competition; we will return to the mat on December 30, as we host the 2014 Harry S. Truman Holiday Tournament. Teams will wrestle Five Dual Meets at the tournament. Please come support!

Matsplosion 11/16/14

Congratulations to the HST wrestlers who competed in the 2014 Matsplosion wrestling tournament over the weekend at the Valley Forge Casino. The six Tigers who competed each brought home medals! Senior Dylan Nuttall and Junior Johnny Joel both captured titles in their respective weight classes, both, winning six matches en route of doing so. Junior Justin Litz was the runner up at 220lbs, recording a pin in his first match of the day. Both Dustin Stone and Dennis Burns (Juniors) brought home third place medals; Austin Vossbein (Junior) earned a fourth place medal. Much thanks to the Booster Club, Coaches and parents for their continued effort and support. This was the last pre-season competition for the year, as the 2014-2015 season starts today (11-17-14). We will open our season at the Bear Duals at Boyertown HS on 12/06/14.
