In the ‘blood round’, Gunnar saw senior Jakob Campbell (3x PIAA Sate Place Winner).  Campbell bested Gunnar with a 7-4 decision, which cut Fuss short just one win short of earning a top-eight medal.  Campbell went on to win a 3rd place medal.  Gunnar ends his second season with the Tigers with a career mark of 67-13.  Other Tigers with impressive marks this season include:

Congratulations to all current and former HST wrestlers on your successful 2016-2017 seasons..Now, it’s time to start preparing for 2017-2018!!

Displaying IMG_1451.PNG

Danny Vossbein was a 2014 graduate of Harry S Truman.  Currently, Danny is a Junior at West Chester University, where he is continuing his wrestling career in the NCWA.  As a freshman at WCU, Danny qualified for the NCWA National Championships.  During his Sophomore year, the NCWA club was left without a coach, which left the Rams Wrestling Club unable to compete, and in danger of becoming nonexistent.  Determined to keep the program alive, Vossbein took over as the West Chester University Wrestling Club President and got the Rams back on track!  On Saturday (12-03-16) the Rams opened up their competition season at the Cyclone Open, hosted by Centenary College.  Dan won 2 of his 3 bouts, earning his way into the 165lb championship final, where he dropped a 6-2 decision to the Nassau 165lb starter.  His two wins included a Fall over UMBC and a decision over Camden's 165lber.

Great job Dan, keep it up!!

Next up, the WCU Rams will be facing PSU Sckuylkill, and Lehigh Club on Friday.  Best of luck to Dan and the WCU Rams!

Nuttall, Successful Start to First Season As A Spartan!

Updated on 06/10/2022 | Jesse Dunn

Dylan Nuttall was a 2015 Harry S Truman graduate.  He was a PIAA State Qualifier, and currently hold the school record for most career wins (138).  Dylan had a very successful freshman year at Bridgewater State University last season, where he went 24-10 overall, earned New England Wrestling Association All-Rookie honors, and falling just short of earning an NCAA Championship birth.  Nuttall's 24 wins, was the most recorded by a freshman for the BSU Bears since 2006-2007.

This year, Dyaln transferred to York College, where he has already made a great impact on the Spartan wrestling program. This past weekend (11.5.16), Dylan went 4-1 to earn a 3rd place finish (125lbs) at the Monarch Invitational at King's College.  He opened up with an 18-5 major decision over Scranton's Jake Thomson.  He followed with an overtime win over Josh Antoine (Cortland), before falling to Roger Williams University's Nick Bareria 6-3.  Barberia went on to win the 125lb title.  In the Consolations, Nuttall bounced back with a 7-4 win over Chris Gural (RWU), and a tight 6-3 win over Josh Antoine (Cortland) to lock up his 3rd place finish.

The #10 ranked York Spartans return to action this weekend (11.12.16) at the Roger Williams Invitational.  Nuttall will be joined by former HST teammate, Jesse Huber.  Huber enters his second season with the Spartans, after serving one year as an assistant coach for Truman.  During his time at Truman, Huber was a 2x District I Champion.  In his first season with the Spartans, Huber finished 16-13 overall at 184lbs.

Great job guys - Keep it up!!

Rutgers University Director of Olympic Sport Operations, Jeff Jacobs visits Truman to Share Some Secrets to Success

Updated on 06/10/2022 | Jesse Dunn

(Saturday, October 29, 2016)

The HST Wrestling team welcomed Jeff Jacobs on Saturday, as he ran a successful clinic and shared what it takes to be successful, both on and off the mat.

Jeff Jacobs is a former teammate of mine at East Stroudsburg University.  Jeff is a Point Boro (NJ) native, who has seen high levels of success not only as a competitor, but as a coach and professional at the high school, collegiate, and international levels. Here is short glimpse of some of Jeff's accomplishments:

-NJ High School State Place winner & All-American

     -2011 NCAA National Qualifier

-Former Head Assistant Coach at Stevens Institute of Technology and Delaware Valley University

-2016 UWW World Beach Wrestling Championships - Bronze Medalist

-Director of Olympic Sport Operations - Rutgers University

Jacobs came to Truman on Saturday to not only share some highly effective technique, but the importance of hard work, the life lessons he has learned through the sport of wrestling, and the opportunities he has been awarded with as a result of working hard and staying focused.  The audience/participants on Saturday included wrestlers from the Bucks/Montgomery/Delaware/Philadelphia Region, as well as New Jersey.

Jeff explained that he was no different than anyone in the audience, as far as ability, but through hard work, and truly becoming a 'student of the sport', he was able to use wrestling as his vehicle to not only a successful career as a competitor, but as a coach and working professional. As a professional, Jeff helps with the NCAA recruiting process for potential student athletes, and he put much emphasis on the importance on the STUDENT part of that title.  I often tell my wrestlers to become students of the sport and learn from those who have already reached the highest levels of success; we were fortunate enough to have one of those individuals [Jacobs] come visit us Saturday -- anyone who attended, you are on the right track to a successful career!  Big thanks to Jeff for taking the time to speak/work with these young wrestlers, the HST Coaching staff/booster club, and all participants!  Keep training hard.  Keep learning. Let wrestling be your vehicle to success!

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Important Wrestling Announcements

Updated on 06/10/2022 | Jesse Dunn

1)  Physicals will be offered on Wednesday, November 9th at 2:30.  The cost is $10.00.  You will need a to complete a PIAA packet, which can be found on this website, or in the athletic office.  You will NOT be permitted to tryout for a winter sport if you do not have a physical done.

2)  Impact Testing will be done on November 17th and 22nd after school.

3)  We will be doing the first round of weight certifications this Friday (November 5) at 2:30.  Please discuss with Coach Dunn or Coach Voran PRIOR to doing your weight certification!

4)  Welcome Back/Parent Night is scheduled for Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30pm in Room G3.  This is a great opportunity to meet the coaches, booster club, and families.  We will provided an overview of everything parents/student-athletes need to know/expect during the 2016-2017 wrestling season.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.

*During this event, we introduce our first fundraising event.  This has been a successful event that not only raises money for the program, but provides an opportunity for wrestlers to essentially get their team gear free-of-charge.  Details will be explained on this night, but to be proactive, if each wrestler could bring  this night it would be very helpful!

I look forward to seeing/meeting everyone very soon!
